the goals of the imf (1)

the international monetary fund (Imf) was key institution in the functioning of the post-world war II international monetary system known as the Bretton woods system.in this context, the IMF had several objectives. in broad terms one important goal of the IMF was to seek stability in exchange rates. When the institution was first set up and for three decades thereafter, the IMF charter called for a system of Pegged but adjustable exchange rates. As the 'Iinchpin' of the Bretton woods system, the dollar was defined by the united states as having a value of 1/35 of an ounce of gold.Other countries then defined their currency values in terms of the dollar.
